Chinnar is the major wildlife sanctuary in Kerala located just 25 kms away from Idduki district. Established in the year 1984 as a Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, this exotic park houses various species of animals and rare species of birds like rare giant squirrel, elephants, bonnet macaques, Peafowl, Bulbul, Flycatcher, Peacocks, Hanuman Monkey, eagles, vipers and many others.
Apart from being the home to many wildlife species, as you travel along the sanctuary you will come across thorny scrub forests, wet grasslands, dry deciduous forests and many other species of rich fauna.
Other species of animals and birds that are found inside the wildlife sanctuary are black eagles, spectacled cobras, Indian Bison, cormorants, cobras, pythons and 225 species of avifauna.
Though the forest department does not allow trekking and tour inside the forest, wildlife lovers still have the options to enjoy the river cruise to enjoy the lovely view of the rich landscape and the scintillating natural surrounding that add beauty to Chinnar wildlife sanctuary.
